A Free, Quick, and Healthy Energy Boost

Around 2:30-3PM each day, I’m ready to take a nap. How about you? If you’re feeling drained and about to take your afternoon sugar or caffeine high, here’s an alternative.

If you’re looking for a quick boost of energy without resorting to caffeine, drugs, or sugar, try breathing. It’s free. Amazingly, most people do not know how to breathe properly and deprive their brains of necessary oxygen. Try taking 3-5 slow deep breaths. Inhale slowly and completely, hold your breath for a few moments, then exhale letting the air gradually find its way out of your lungs. Don’t hold your breath too long so that you get dizzy, but work on gradually increasing the length of time you can comfortably hold it in. When I do this for 10 breaths, I feel as refreshed as if I took a nap. You may even want to try this before a special event like a presentation, or when you just want to get clarity in your thinking.
