Have you noticed the pace of change accelerating around you? During that change, did you find yourself stressing to try to keep up? Have you been witness to the nature of how work is changing? Are the lines between work and personal life become blurred for you? Have the jobs around you in your organization been disappearing? If any of these things have been happening around you, you need to continue reading and discover the map to your own survival.
Brian Tracy, author of Maximum Achievement, says, “Today’s greatest source of wealth is between your ears.” In other words, your single most precious source of your own wealth is your brain power. However, amazingly, most stressed out business professionals rarely consider their own brain power. Validate this for yourself. Ask ten colleagues you know if they consider themselves creative and brilliant. Chances are few will say yes to that question. Eighty-two percent of children entering the school system think of themselves as creative learners. Amazingly, by the time they finish high school that figure drops to 18%. What happens? Do people become “dumber” with more education? Again, consider your own self as a case in point. How easily do you engage all areas of your brain when trying to learn something? If you experience frustration, what do you tell yourself? Do you know how to construct a learning session for yourself to fully engage all areas of the brain and thus learn more efficiently and productively?
There has been much call for the corporate world to become “learning organizations,” where the rate of adaptation of the workforce is on a never ending path. Unfortunately very few organizations have done this well. The ones that do tend to dominate in their industries. But what do the successful learning organizations do that others fail to accomplish? For one, they are dedicated to their employees’ lifelong learning and personal growth.
Ok, so you say your organization is not one of these success stories. So what? An organization is a collection of individuals. You are one of those. How dedicated are you to your lifelong learning and growth? If you’re reading this, you probably are dedicated to your own self-improvement and growth. But have you learned to powerfully unlock your brain’s full capacity as a lifelong habit? In an ever increasing complicated world, we all need to boost our brain’s power. There is a map that you can follow:
